Summer Livin’: How to Re-open Your Cottage

Summer Livin’: How to Re-open Your Cottage

P.E.I. weather will warm up soon (we promise!). And when it does, it’ll be time for all of you cottage owners to get your home-away-from-home ready for another season.

Here’s a checklist of some of things you’ll have to do to get ready:

  • Turn on your utilities. Before you head out to the cottage, be sure to get your utilities turned on. This could include your power, as well as cable. If your water heater was drained last fall, make sure the breaker is offer before turning on the power. You should also check your septic system and see if it’s due for a check-up.

  • Check your insurance. Make sure your seasonal property insurance policy is up-to-date by contacting your broker. This includes insurance for your cottage, boat, and trailer.

  • Check your plumbing system. Your plumbing lines will have to be checked before you spend time at the cottage. This is the perfect time to fix any issues with your plumbing system. Leave it up to the professionals and contact us at Mr. Plumber! We can help get your water turned on for the summer.

  • Inspect your property. Walk around the perimeter ad check for broken windows, down power lines, pest damage, roof damage, etc… It’ll also be time to replace any necessary batteries and filters throughout your place.

  • Bring the essentials. It’s time to do some cleaning! Be sure to bring out a toolkit and cleaning supplies for your first weekend at the cottage.

  • Think of possible upgrades. The first of the season could be the perfect time to do some upgrades to your property. This could mean putting on a fresh coat of paint, upgrading your bathroom, or installing a heat pump. Walk through your cottage and see what needs to be replaced.
